Cedar Point is a 147-hectare (364-acre) amusement park located on Lake Erie Peninsula in Sandusky, Ohio. Opened in 1870, it is the second oldest functioning amusement park in the United States, just behind Compound Lake. Cedar Point is owned and operated by Cedar Fair and is considered a major theme in the amusement park chain. Known as the “Roller Coast” of America, the park boasts a world record of 69 attractions, including 16 roller coasters, the third largest in the world behind Canada’s Wonderland and Energeland (both 17) and the Six Flag Magic Mountain. Its new coaster, Steel Revenge, is open to the public on May 5, 2018. The normal operating season at Cedar Point runs from early May to Labor Day in September. The park only reopens on weekends in late October or early November for Halloween-themed events known as Hallowekends. Other attractions near the park include a mile-long (1.6 km) white sand beach, an outdoor water park called Cedar Point Shores, an indoor water park called Castway Bay, two marinas, and an outdoor sports complex.
